Rangers could find it 'impossible' to keep 64-game star at Ibrox

Rangers have an almost “impossible” task of keeping Calvin Bassey, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 6’0 defender has been one of the Gers’ standout players last season, with his form attracting the attention of the Premier League.

The 22-year-old, who earns £10,000 per-week at Ibrox, was relatively unknown prior to last season, having made just 15 appearances for Rangers, the majority of which came from the bench.

But Bassey has come into his own this term, making 49 appearances, taking his total for the club to 64, helping the Glasgow giants reach the Europa League final and win the Scottish Cup.

As a result of Bassey’s form, he’s now on the radar of the Premier League, with Aston Villa appearing to lead the race for his signature.

According to The Times, Villa are set to ‘step up their pursuit’ of the ex-Leicester City younger, with their scouts impressed by his form in Europe, while the Daily Mail believe that Rangers have slapped a £25m price-tag on Bassey, with West Ham also interested in his services.

Therefore, Jones believes that it’ll be “impossible” for Bassey to still be a Rangers player beyond the summer window.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s so difficult for them with Calvin Bassey, it seems like it’ll probably be impossible to keep him.

“He’s burst through at a moment when the transfer window is about to open, and he has played the game of his life in the last game of the season pretty much.”
