Rangers caller has a message for Celtic fans over stinging Champions League jibes - Hotline

The Nations League might now be the focus but the end of the World Cup dream left some Scotland legends at loggerheads.

Boss Steve Clarke had a minor pop back after former national boss Craig Levein and Tartan Army hero Willie Miller criticised the tactics in last week’s loss to Ukraine.

Hotline punters lined up to pick a side.

Ian Urquhart, via email, said: “I cannot believe the cheek of Craig Levein having a go at Clarke over selection and formation.

“This is coming from a clown who played Ian Black in an international game, even though he was playing in Scotland's third tier at the time, and he also played without a striker against the Czech Republic.”

But John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Deep down Steve Clarke will be well aware he and his players blew it against Ukraine.

“He will also concede that his team are well capable of beating the Welsh and that's what has disappointed us all.

“We don't all need the experience of Craig Levein or Willie Miller to express our opinions on a game of football. Steve needs to suck up the criticism and admit he got it wrong against Ukraine.”

The domestic game is taking a well-earned pause for breath but what if some of the clubs don’t come back for pre-season?

A few weeks off has given one caller time to come up with a radical idea to shake up Scottish football but it might not be popular with everyone.

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “It’s time to amalgamate some of our football clubs as Scottish football can't continue with the financial burden.

“Clubs like Dundee and Dundee United should join forces and we could also expand the Premiership, reducing the amount of leagues we have to just two divisions.

“As it stands Scottish football can't survive.”
