Rangers' Ben Davies transfer fee revealed as Liverpool to make healthy profit on defender
Rangers will need to pay a fee of £3million upfront to land Liverpool centre-back Ben Davies, it is claimed.
The left-sided player is set to arrive at Ibrox as a quickfire replacement in defence for Calvin Bassey, who is closing in on a blockbuster move to Ajax. He will rake in a cash windfall for the Ibrox club, making them in excess of £20 million with his transfer. At least one new player will come in after his exit and it's been reported Davies is that man.
Formerly of Preston North End, the Englishman spent last season at Sheffield United after a move to the Reds as cover in 2021 didn't result in any senior minutes. Celtic were on to try and sign him 18 months ago but Liverpool nudged ahead of them and handed Davies a deal until 2025. He's set to depart three years early though for regular minutes.
A medical to make him Rangers' sixth summer signing is expected this week and a £4m fee - with £3m up front - has been agreed with Liverpool, according to the Daily Record.
He'll make the journey north for personal terms and should be signed up well before boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst picks his first Premiership XI of the season versus Livingston on July 30th.
John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman have already signed deals to join their cause.
