Rangers B v Airdrie: Diamonds ace Fordyce eyes win to take step closer to repeating trophy feat with Livingston

Airdrie assistant boss Callum Fordyce won the SPFL Trust Trophy during his time at Livingston and says the competition represents a great opportunity for him to repeat that feat with the Diamonds this season.

The defender scored in Livi's 4-0 final win over Alloa in 2015 and it remains the only competition he has won as a player.

Tonight, Airdrie hope to take a step closer to silverware when they face Rangers B at Cappielow in a fourth round tie, knowing they face a return to the same venue to face Morton on November 18 in the quarter-finals if they make it through.

And the 31-year-old said: "This competition is a chance for us to win a trophy.

"I was lucky enough to win it when I was at Livingston. It can give you that buzz for the remainder of the season and I think we went on a such a good run at Livingston that year that we managed to stay up in the last game of the season, when everyone thought we'd be relegated.

"That cup win gave us a bit of momentum later in the season.

"It's a good chance to win silverware for the club and the players. Not many players at the club can say they have won silverware, so it is a big opportunity."

Rangers B have knocked out League Two sides Spartans and Stenhousemuir, as well as League One Alloa on their cup run so far.

Fordyce added: "It will be a tough game. Rangers B are full of good young players who are trying to make their way in the game and impress to get into the mix for the first team.

"They play with a style and a brand like the first team and they are all looking to progress.

"It will be an exciting game for the players and one that we will relish.

"We will be doing everything we can to get through the tie."
