Rangers and the 3 player transfer paradox as Gio van Bronckhorst signing demands emerge
Gio van Bronckhorst wants to add three automatic starters to his Rangers squad this summer for a crack at the Champions League, according to a report.
However if they are to splash the cash on more than one, it's claimed funds may have to be raised from a major sale.
Van Bronckhorst is looking to strengthen his team as he targets title glory and another major European run in his first full season at Ibrox
He has the basis of a solid squad to work with especially after Connor Goldson and Steven Davis committed their futures.
John Souttar's pre-contract arrival adds further quality to the defence but it isn't believed Van Bronckhorst is stopping there.
According to The Athletic, Van Bronckhorst wants "at least two or three" new players who would be considered automatic starters - and that's before he'll start to think about letting any first-team stars go.
The same report though suggests that's at odds with the club - claiming Rangers have cash to burn on at least one quality signing, but a second "may require a sale."
One of Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos - all out of contract next summer - could be sold to raise funds should offers arrive or the club reportedly want £25 million if man of the moment Calvin Bassey is to be sold.
Speaking back when Van Bronckhorst was appointed, sporting director Ross Wilson insisted no players have to be sold - although he did admit there was room for improvement as far as their player trading model goes.
He said: “We as a club have been clear – there is no mandate that we have to sell players.
“We have been really clear in our communications that we see player trading as something that has to be normal for this club, as it is for nearly every club in world football.
