The Rangers transfer state of play in full as Gio van Bronckhorst squares up to contracts, signings and dilemmas

It’s shaping up to be a busy summer at Ibrox as boss Gio van Bronckhorst sets about putting his stamp on his Rangers squad.

The Dutchman inherited a title-winning team from Steven Gerrard when he took over last November but January’s recruitment drive was not enough to maintain the club’s grip on the Scottish Premiership trophy.

It was hoped the arrival of star signing Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus, plus moves for James Sands and Amad Diallo, would be enough to retain their crown but the duel exertions of taking on Celtic as well as chasing Europa League glory proved too much for a squad forced to settle for the Scottish Cup as consolation.

The winter window came around before van Bronckhorst had truly got his feet under the table but now seven months into the gig, the pressure will be on the former Feyenoord coach and sporting director Ross Wilson to come up with a plan to wrestle the title back from Parkhead and guide the team through August's vital Champions League qualifiers.

Connor Goldson last week finally put 18 months of speculation on his Rangers future to bed by committing himself to the club for another four years, while midfield veteran Steven Davis – first revealed here in late May – has also signed on for another 12-months after displays against the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville and Celtic in the Scottish Cup semis convinced his boss he can still have an influence on big games.

Like Davis, Scott Arfield has also been rewarded with a fresh extension after proving in the final stages of the campaign that he has a role to play but defender Leon Balogun and fourth-choice keeper Andy Firth have been deemed surplus
