Rangers and Celtic fans send Russell Martin a unified message in astonishing Hotline first
The Rangers support is split on Russell Martin as new boss – but some of them are united with CELTIC fans over the move.
Hoops punters have hit the Hotline to dismiss the appointment and there are some in the Light Blues legions who agree.
Donald Dundas, Uddingston, said: “Unfortunately I have to agree with the green sector who gloat regularly on the Hotline.
“The totally uninspiring signing of Martin has divided the Rangers support. I can see I'm getting his compensation bonus in his Christmas card. He looked like a rabbit in the headlights at the press conference.”
Some Gers fans are slowly being won over.
Irwin Houston, Giffnock, said: “An underwhelming appointment in my opinion. Let’s hope the new regime sees something in Martin that I don’t see, mainly his inflexibility to change his playing style when things are going wrong.
“This was the reason for his dismissal at Southampton. Let’s hope he has learned from his errors there as the fans will quickly turn against him if results don’t go our way. I would however urge all fans to get behind him and the team now and let’s go for 56.”
Gordon Ferguson, Kilwinning, said: “Martin is being written off before a ball is even kicked. Let’s just give the guy a chance. A new era dawns at Ibrox and it’s a better appointment than going back for Gerrard and more realistic than Mourinho.”
John Spence emailed: “It's disappointing to hear the reaction of some Rangers fans to Martin's appointment. He's served a decent managerial apprenticeship at middling clubs.
“Now he's at a massive club, where proper resources are available and, unlike others linked with the job, it appears he actually wanted it. It's a new dawn, let's get behind Russell to steer us back to where we belong.”
