Ramsgate manager Lee Martin vows to steer clear of ‘energy vampires’ when adding to his squad
Lee Martin will take care to dodge the “energy vampires” as he looks to strengthen his Ramsgate squad.
Rams boss Martin is working hard on recruitment as he settles into life in the Southwood hotseat.
He’s coming up for 10 games in charge in all competitions, reaching double figures at Dulwich Hamlet this Saturday (3pm), and is ready to make moves in the transfer market.
Other clubs in the Isthmian Premier have done so and it’s time Ramsgate followed suit, particularly with injuries leaving them light.
But that won’t come at the cost of squad unity, which Martin, who says he’s had “good conversations” with targets, knows is essential if Rams are to achieve anything.
“We are actively looking,” said Martin.
“If we haven’t got fit players, we won’t win games of football, it’s as simple as that.
“We are trying to change that narrative, so that’s going to be important in terms of where we end up, and we will be looking to bring in additions.
“We did say we’d give boys the benefit of the doubt and give them opportunities to showcase what they’re all about.
“You normally have a 10-game window and then you look to tweak or adapt, so these are conversations that will be ongoing this week.
“There’s a couple of seven-dayers gone in.
“You want to benefit the squad and sign players who fit into our style of play because not everyone we inherited would do that.
“It’s just the way we want to play and football is about opinions.
“We can’t just keep having 12 fit boys. Every other team has now rolled the dice. You’ve seen it across the board.
“We’re waiting for our moment. We wanted that 10-game marker to give people the opportunity but we’re never not going to act on certain things because we want players that fit into our style of play
