Ramsgate manager Ady Pennock vows to give youngsters every opportunity to break into first-team squad

Ramsgate manager Ady Pennock is looking forward to giving youth a chance.

Pennock has already invited a number of the club’s promising youngsters to pre-season training.

It’s not a token gesture, either. If they’re good enough, then Pennock will not hesitate to give them a role in his squad.

“Every club I’ve been at, I’ve always loved developing young players,” said Pennock.

“The locals in Ramsgate would love to see local lads put that shirt on.

“There are some good youngsters at Ramsgate. I’ve invited eight youngsters in for pre-season. I think six of them have already played for the first team last season in cup competitions as well as the league.

“Every club I’ve been at has been very successful. I’m not going to stop doing it. I’ve said before, it doesn't matter if they're 15 or 42, if they’re good enough, they’ll be starting in my team. It’s what it’s all about.

“It’s very important to develop young players. It really is important. It will carry on wherever I am, and it will certainly carry on at Ramsgate.

“If we can develop these boys and get them through into the first team regularly, then it’s great news all round.”

Even if the players are not ready for a spot in Pennock’s first-team squad, he insists they’ll still benefit from spending pre-season in that environment.

“It’s so important because they’ll only get better,” added the Ramsgate boss. “We all know pre-seasons are tough - that’s the toughest bit about being a footballer, really.

“But they’ll get used to me, they’ll get used to my staff, and they’ll get used to the players.

“They'‘l be looking up at the players and thinking they’re good players with the ability that the first-team players bring. So, these youngsters will only get better.

“Come the start
