Ramsgate manager Ady Pennock reacts to 1-0 defeat at Welling United in Isthmian Premier

Ramsgate boss Ady Pennock felt his team deserved something from the game at Welling on Saturday.

The hosts ran out 1-0 winners in the Isthmian Premier, with Ramsgate missing a couple of guilt-edged chances in the closing minutes to rescue a point.

“I didn’t think we were great in the first half,” said Pennock. “Obviously defending the slop is always tough but I thought we’d done alright in a way to keep them to just one goal.

“That's what I was more pleased with. We had a couple of clear-cut chances so we’re disappointed with it.

“From the first kick, I thought it was us on our back foot. We let people head the ball and we weren't on the front foot.

“But I was pleased with the second half and I thought we should have at least got something from the game.”

Pennock explained what he wanted from his players in the second half.

“I wanted us to be brave,” he stated. “I wanted to be brave on the ball. It doesn't mean that if the boots are flying, you've got to put your head in where the boots are flying.

“I'm talking about being brave on the ball. I wanted us to get on the ball more than we were. We were just pumping the ball forward, which is not us at all.

“We haven't been like that since I've been here. So, that's why I was more disappointed. We need to be braver on the ball by passing it a little bit better than we did.

“When we did pass it around and we opened them up, but we were nowhere near on it in the first half.”

Despite the improvement in the second half, Ramsgate found clear-cut chances hard to come by until the final 15 minutes of the game.

“I did say at one point to Roland Edge on the bench that we haven’t had a clear-cut chance yet,” recalled the Ramsgate boss.
