Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright on the first week of competitive action after a 1-1 draw with Salisbury in National League South

Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright has revealed how the emotions of the past fortnight have taken their toll on his squad.

The Fleet remain unbeaten after a second successive home draw - 1-1 with Salisbury - in National League South last Saturday.

They’ve played three games in a week and on the back of an emotional rollercoaster, the Fleet boss admitted it’s taken a lot out of them.

“It's definitely been testing,” stated Wright. “Every week playing football games is testing and managing a group and a whole football club within reason.

“But it's just more on the back of where we were. Everyone had a different way of being involved in it and different responsibilities.

“But it was really tough, mate. It was really tough. I can't lie for myself, but I always keep saying take me out of it because I have to and it's my job.

“But for these players and the staff, the uncertainty and the unknown, the worry and the concern, it takes a lot out of you.

“I’m talking about the emotion leading up to last Saturday and all of a sudden, we've not had a moment to breathe because we've gone Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday.

“Every game, we're trying to organise meetings, training sessions, recover players, get them worked and it's just been a whirlwind on the back of the emotion.

“You're so mentally drained already and emotional, that I still don't think it's really sunk in.

“I cannot fault what the boys have done this week. They've been amazing. Honestly, they've been amazing.

“Let’s have it right. We dominated last Saturday (at Walton & Hersham, we dominated Tuesday night (against Hemel Hempstead) and we've dominated large spells today and should probably have come out with a win again.
