Ralf Schumacher suggests one factor might let Sergio Perez down in Max Verstappen battle

Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has said that Max Verstappen’s extra level of consistency might be what gives the Dutchman an advantage in any title fight he has with team-mate Sergio Perez this season.

The two Red Bull drivers both have title chances as things stand this year with Verstappen top of the standings by nine points from Charles Leclerc, whilst Perez is just another six points further back.

Indeed, Checo showed that he has great skill and class behind the wheel with his performance over the Monaco GP weekend and, if he can keep that up, you cannot rule him out from being a potential world champion this very season.

However, for former race-winner Ralf Schumacher, the difference between the two team-mates is consistency, and he believes that Max’s extra level of that will eventually see him oust Perez in any title fight, though he admits over the weekend just gone Sergio was the better driver:

“I don’t think Sergio will end up having the consistency that Max Verstappen has. But in Monaco he was the better driver all weekend,” he told Sky Deutschland.

“Max has a very aggressive driving style, which means that with this car concept it suits Sergio more. Max can take this moment to learn from his teammate.”

Perez will be eager to use his performance in Monaco as a building block for the races ahead, with the F1 circus heading to Baku up next – a track that Sergio won at last year after Max’s dramatic tyre blowout.
