Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel: Max Verstappen sets new F1 record to beat some of the greats

Max Verstappen now has more Formula 1 race wins than he does years after the 24-year-old made it 25 Grand Prix victories in Azerbaijan at the weekend, and that puts him above everyone in terms of youngest driver to hit that milestone.

The Dutchman has been in the sport for several years now with him joining as a teenager and quickly making his mark both for Toro Rosso and then, of course, for Red Bull.

Indeed, he joined the Bulls in 2016 and won his first race for them at the Spanish Grand Prix, with the following 24 coming in the six years since – though most have obviously come since 2021 as Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s stranglehold on things was famously challenged.

Even so, despite that initial gap before the victories really started flowing, Max’s age and early entrance into the sport means he’s ahead of every other driver that has got to 25 race wins in terms of how old they were when they achieved it.

The Dutchman doesn’t turn 25 until September, too, and so in that time he could add a few more victories to his tally.

In terms of all-time winners, he now sits joint with two greats in Niki Lauda and Jim Clark, whilst the names he’s beaten with this new record aren’t too shabby either, with the two statistically greatest of all time; Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, being knocked down the list as well as Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso:
