Ralf Rangnick set to face Leeds litmus test to preview the extent of Manchester United progress

Ralf Rangnick's tenure at Manchester United so far has not gone the way some fans would have expected. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as interim manager, the team experienced a fantastic bounce in both results and performances, but we haven't seen the same outcome under the German.

Solskjaer's initial bounce came from the fact that he took over a team that was capable of beating its opponents by four or five goals, as shown early in Jose Mourinho's tenure, but the Portuguese manager had heavily restricted them due to his reaction to anomalous results.

The Norwegian took all the shackles off, and the good results flowed. Rangnick has taken over a team in a far worse state, and while the performances have been a definite improvement, the results have not reflected that.

However, for many fans, Leeds United will be the match with which they pass judgment of whether Rangnick has improved this United squad.

Under Solskjaer, United registered 6-2 and 5-1 wins against Leeds, and in the case of the latter, it seemed like the only match United had been in control for the entirety of the game this season.

'Attack, attack, attack' is the classic chant of United fans, and it seems in these games they heed the message, but what result would define success for Rangnick?

It should be said that during Solskjaer's tenure, he also oversaw a 0-0 draw with Leeds, which was completely devoid of excitement or ideas from either team, so this match-up is an all-action thrill ride.

Rangnick will want all three points, as they are vital in the club's push for a top-four spot at the end of the season, especially against a Leeds side who are struggling with injuries this season, but he will most likely want to see a performance where United
