Manchester City Fans Mock Sir Alex Ferguson With Cheeky Banner As The Former Manchester United Boss Watches On At The Etihad

Manchester City fans mocked Sir Alex Ferguson with a cheeky banner in their thumping win over rivals Manchester United.

Ferguson was watching in the stands at the Etihad as his former side were comprehensively outplayed by City.

City supporters used the match to unveil a new banner, mocking Ferguson.

It read: “NOT IN MY LIFETIME”.

The quote references the famous answer given by Ferguson back in 2009, when asked if City could become the dominant team in Manchester.

City have finished above United in every Premier League season since Ferguson retired in 2013, with the Etihad club winning five league titles during that time.

City supporters are understandably revelling in their status as the best team in Manchester on current form.

One fan commented on Twitter: "How embarrassing for Ferguson that he’s back at the Etihad and we pull out this.

"I bet he regrets saying those four words so much. Statement banner."

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has admitted there was a gulf in class between the two teams on Sunday and said it was “almost impossible” for his side to have stopped City in the second half.

“It’s difficult against a team like Man City, once you are 3-1 down against the best team in possession of the ball on the planet, it’s difficult,” said Rangnick.

“I cannot blame anyone for not having tried and put effort into that game, but it was difficult after the third goal.

“After 28 games you're as far apart from each team as the table shows (22 points).

“The second half showed that if they are in their momentum and if they are 3-1 up then it is almost impossible to keep them away from your own goal."
