Raith 'set' to appoint Neill Collins as new manager as search for Ian Murray successor ends

Raith Rovers are poised to name Neill Collins as their new manager, according to a report.

The Stark's Park club have been without a permanent boss since they sacked Ian Murray in the wake of a 1-0 away defeat to Airdrieonians on the opening weekend of the Championship season last month. Since then, Colin Cameron and John Potter have stepped into take charge of first team affairs until an appointment is made and have overseen two wins and two losses in the second tier at the helm.

But exactly 30 days after Murray's dismissal, The Scotsman claim that Collins, 41, is set to be named as the new Raith manager. The former Scotland B international has been out of work since getting the boot at Barnsley last season despite the Tykes sitting in the EFL League One play-off spots with one game remaining.

Collins - who turned out for several clubs down south including Leeds United, Wolves and Sheffield United during his playing career - previously had five years in charge of USL Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he was named as the coach of the year in the second tier in 2021.

Earlier on Tuesday, his predecessor Murray had opened up on his shock departure in Fife. Murray's statement read: "I was stunned when I received a short telephone call from (chief executive) Andrew Barrowman on the Sunday morning after the Airdrie match telling me my contract was being terminated.

“I told him I totally disagreed with this decision. But I’ve been in the game long enough to know that despite my record, nothing should surprise you in football.
