Rain ruins deciding T20 between Proteas and India after Ngidi burst, series drawn

The rain had the final say in the fifth T20 between South Africa and India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The no result that emanated from the game not being completed meant the series was drawn 2-2.

India were 28/2 after 3.3 overs of a game that was already shortened to 19 overs because of a pre-match shower when the rain intervened again three balls into Lungi Ngidi's second over.

AS IT HAPPENED | Fifth T20: India v South Africa

India had lost the wickets of openers Ishan Kishan (15) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (10), who both fell to Ngidi (2/6).

Kishan missed a straight slower ball and was castled while Gaikwad scooped an easy catch to Dwaine Pretorius at mid-on.

The rain then fell steadily, denying fans what could have been a thrilling climax to a series that had seen momentum shift significantly.

South Africa won the first two matches in Delhi and Cuttack by seven and four wickets respectively before India bounced back in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot with respective 48 and 82-run wins to give the series life for the final game.

The rain doused all of that, leaving the teams to prepare for their upcoming trips to the United Kingdom.
