Rafael van der Vaart changes Scottish football habit of a lifetime as Dutch legend left in disbelief at Amsterdam outcome

Netherlands legend Rafael van der Vaart reckons Scotland should have won 4-0 in Amsterdam instead of the other way round.

Steve Clarke's side extended their winless run to six games in a four-goal defeat to the Netherlands on Friday, although it was generally acknowledged it was an extremely harsh scoreline on the Scots. And 109-times capped former Real Madrid and Spurs ace van der Vaart reckons his nation would have no complaints if Scotland had run up the emphatic win.

And he's predicted former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong played himself out of contention for the Euros. ahead of their friendly in Frankfurt against Germany. He said: "I didn't learn much watching us against Scotland. We were very mediocre. "Actually, it was unbelievable that we won 4-0, because it could easily have finished 4-0 for Scotland. We did see some good moments, but not many and it was a very average display from us to be honest. The conclusion I came to in terms of the players is that Denzel Dumfries simply must play instead of Jeremie Frimpong at the Euros.

"That became very obvious against Scotland. Look, Frimpong is a good player and may well get to the level required. But he's not there yet and Dumfries is our first choice right back."
