Rabbi Matondo in Rangers rallying cry as he hopes 'unbelievable' fans stick with them after Europa League exploits

Rabbi Matondo has urged the Rangers support to replicate the backing that helped them beat Betis as they size up three massive home games in a week.

The Welsh winger played his part in the 1-0 Europa League victory over the La Liga outfit that has sent spirits soaring at Ibrox ahead of the visit of Motherwell tomorrow. That match is followed by a home Viaplay Cup clash with Livingston before Aberdeen arrive on league business a week today. Matondo is adamant that the support can drive them to three wins if the fans stick with the team as they did against the Spaniards.

He said: “The crowd, the way they were behind us from the get go, it was unbelievable. That is exactly what we want as players, to have the crowd behind us, especially in big games like this. They certainly were. We took the three points and I am sure we made them proud at the end of the game. But it is not just about big European nights. Every game we play at home we need our special crowd. They were special and I pray they continue to be like that in every home game we play because they are so important and vital to what we want to do on that pitch.”

Matondo believes the Europa victory can signal a change in fortune for Michael Beale’s side after a poor start to the season that sees them trailing Celtic in the league by four points after just five games.

“We had to dig in at times but ultimately we deserved the win and we played very well in some parts of the game,” he added. “There are things we need to be better at but overall it was a good performance and we will take the three points. It pushes us and allows us to go and really believe in every game that we can play like we did in the second half and get a result against any team.”
