Rab Douglas shares the Celtic goalkeeper whisper that convinces him Joe Hart has huge successor role to play

Rab Douglas is adamant Celtic have absolutely no need to replace Joe Hart.

And the former Parkhead keeper believes the current No.1 can keep producing the goods whilst also playing a key role in finding his successor in Glasgow’s East End. Hart’s position is a topic of conversation amongst punters as the club hunts for new faces during the transfer window. With Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist unable to dislodge the Englishman, the champions have been linked with a host of keepers.

From Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin to Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher with Elfsborg’s Hakon Valdimarsson in between, names are being proposed to take the gloves. However, Douglas just doesn’t see the need. He can’t understand the clamour. Celtic’s 2003 UEFA Cup Final keeper believes the 36-year-old is still operating at a high level. Hart’s deal may be up in the summer, but Douglas has no doubts he’s capable of doing the business for a couple more years yet. As well as that, he says the man himself can help identify and guide his successor.

Douglas explained: “He has a year or two left at Celtic, if he wants to, of course. Easily. It’s not as if he carries weight, you see he is still sharp in the goal, makes big saves at big times and he’s been a fantastic servant for Celtic. His desire is still there and I’m a great fan of Joe. Celtic’s last win at Ibrox when they won 1-0, he made a save and the team kicked on to win the game. It’s the easiest position to get blame, but I really like him. His demeanour is good, so is his attitude and he’s had unfair criticism.
