"Quite quickly" - Journalist claims Chelsea could sign £68m star post-takeover

Chelsea could wrap up a deal for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde ‘quite easily and quite quickly’, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Blues reportedly came close to signing the 23-year-old last summer, but a transfer fee could not be agreed between the two clubs, and he ended up staying at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Kounde was the subject of intense interest from Chelsea prior to the current campaign, but Sevilla refused to accept anything below his £68 million release clause.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the France international has provided the west London outfit with a significant boost in their lengthy pursuit of his services.

It’s claimed that Kounde has informed the Sevilla hierarchy that he ‘remains determined’ to depart the club when the market reopens for business in a few months’ time.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the centre-back’s situation, revealing Chelsea are ‘still considering’ him as a potential target.

Romano claims that manager Thomas Tuchel has been a ‘big fan’ of Kounde for two years now and could finally snap up the talented star.

Brown believes that Chelsea shouldn’t have too many issues completing a deal for Kounde, as they don’t currently appear to have ‘a massive rival’ for his signature.

He told GiveMeSport: “It doesn’t seem like they have a massive rival to sign him, I think the other teams who are looking for a centre-back are going in different directions.

“So, that seems to be one they might be able to complete quite easily and quite quickly once the sanctions are lifted, but they are probably going to need somebody else as well.”
