“Quite a gamble” – Birmingham City eye 23-year-old: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Birmingham City could be set to renew their interest in forward Josh Maja this summer, as per The Sunday People via BirminghamLive.

The Blues reportedly attempted to bring Maja to St. Andrews during the January transfer window, before the 23-year-old eventually secured a loan move to Stoke City from his parent club Bordeaux.

Since joining up with the Potters, Maja has made 15 Championship appearances, scoring once and laying on two assists for his teammates.

Maja also scored in the FA Cup fourth round in a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

With that being said, we asked some of our writers are at FLW for their verdict on Maja’s rumoured move to St. Andrews and whether or not it was a good signing for the Blues.

I think Josh Maja is still someone who could light up the Championship, and whilst his recent goalscoring record doesn’t really back this up, he certainly possesses the desirable attributes that should see him succeed in the near future.

The Blues, who could see a number of changes within their frontline, would massively be boosted by the arrival of a player like Maja.

Proving to possess the physicality and pace to cause chaos at times in the Championship, he has walked into a rather difficult situation at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Ensuring they have creativity around Maja would be the immediate next order of business, something they will undoubtedly be thinking about already.

Birmingham will likely be in the market for a new striker this summer and Josh Maja would be an interesting option.
