The date of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has been confirmed to take place on Monday, September 19 and will be marked as a national bank holiday.

This is so individuals, businesses and other organisations can pay their respects to the late monarch while also observe the final day of the national mourning period. However, this bank holiday will be slightly different to the ones we usually get and has different rules surrounding whether you need to go into work or not.

According to the government, there is no statutory entitlement to time off on this bank holiday, employers may also include bank holidays as part of a worker's leave entitlement.

Here's everything you need to know about the Queen's funeral bank holiday, including whether you can have the day off work.

Employers are under no obligation to give you time off on the bank holiday. However, this doesn't mean that something can be sorted out with your employer and will need to be discussed with them.

Furthermore, the government cannot interfere in your existing contract with your employer.

Again, you will need to discuss an arrangement with your employer if you want this bank holiday off work.

Your employer may provide an additional day off but you will need to ask them as they are under no legal obligation to do so.

Similar to previous questions, there is no statute telling your employer they must refund you a day's leave for the funeral date. However, you may be able to sort out an agreement if you discuss it with them.
