Queen of the South winger enjoying life north of the border after summer switch

Harvey Walker insists tough talking gaffer Marvin Bartley is raising his game after a summer move to Palmerston.

The 21-year-old has also revealed the “weird” route he’s taken from Aldershot Town to life in the SPFL.

He said: “I’ve loved it so far. There’s a lot of differences between playing in England and playing in Scotland.

“There are a lot of really good technical players here. Whereas back home you’ve just got a lot of physical athletes, like everyone’s a good runner. But I’ve really enjoyed it so far, it’s been great.

“The move was a really weird one. I worked with a group of players in pre-season and one of them used to play for a couple of clubs in the Scottish Premiership. He took a liking to me and took me to Livingston at first. Livingston then introduced me to Marv and that’s how I ended up here.”

Walker loves working under no-nonsense Bartley.

He said: “He’s brilliant. Every day he is so demanding, you can’t get away with anything in training. Even if it’s a lax pass or giving away the ball stupidly, he’ll be on you. That’s what you need, especially at my age as a player. You need someone that’s going to be on you every day and demand standards.”

The pacy winger is ready for a testing day in the capital against Edinburgh City.

He said: “It will be a tough test, as is every game in this league, but we’ve got the personnel to be able to play football against anyone and impose ourselves on anyone.

“I don’t think we have to worry about going to any team and what they will do to us. It’s about what can we do to them.

“So we’ll never be worried about who we play. We have the ability to impose ourselves.”
