Queen of the South start new manager hunt as Marvin Bartley leaves

Queen of the South are hunting for a new manager after Marvin Bartley left the club following their dismal defeat last weekend at Montrose.

He parted company with the Doonhamers at Links Park at the end of a dreadful season and admitted: “At the end of the day, I’m the manager and it falls on me.”

Bartley, 37, replaced former player-manager Wullie Gibson in January 2023 with the aim of taking Queens to the play-offs in League One this term.

The statistics told their own story with this season’s league numbers showing Queens failed to win in 25 out of 36 League
One encounters to finish seventh in the table and
just two points above the play-off places.

Bartley’s record this term in all competitions reads: played 44 games, won 15 and lost 21. His total for Queens is played 61, won 23 and lost 25.

His last match in charge at Montrose summed up the season with Queens taking a two goal first half lead through a Joel Mumbongo double before slumping to a 3-2 defeat.

Afterwards outgoing chairman Billy Hewitson explained the decision to relieve Bartley of his duties.

He said: “We had all hoped for a successful season to be competing at the top end of the league but, unfortunately, this was not meant to be.

“So the decision has been made to part company with Marvin.

“We thank him and wish him well going forward.”

Bartley insisted he could not have given more.

He said: “As a manager all you can do is give your all and I can walk away knowing that I gave absolutely everything.

“If you speak to the players, they will tell you they have had everything
