Queen of the South defender Jack Brydon reveals Marvin Bartley help as fit again stopper targets Scottish Cup shock

Marvin Bartley was part of the Hibs squad that gave Jack Brydon his best ever moment as a supporter. Now the Queen of the South defender is hoping his gaffer can sprinkle a little bit of that Scottish Cup magic on the Doonhamers as he targets a run in the natoinal competition as a player.

Bartley was a sub as Hibs ended a 114-year wait to lift the silverware in 2016. Brydon was a 12-year-old Hibees fanatic watching on from the Hampden stands as his heroes staged a stunning late show to beat Rangers. Eight years on and the duo are looking to make memories with Queens.

Brydon, who was signed from Hibs’ youth ranks by Bartley last January, said: “I grew up a Hibs fan and Marvin Bartley was a key man in that team so to have him as my manager now is brilliant.

“My dad used to take me to Hibs games and Marvin was the spoiler in midfield. The best moment was 100 per cent the Scottish Cup Final in 2016. I was only 12 but I was at Hampden with my mate to see them lift the cup and it was incredible.

“The manager was obviously in that squad and it’s funny because I’d never met him before he got in touch to sign me last January. But I’d watched him play for years. Now I’ve built up a really good relationship with him at Queens.

“He has shown me a new way of defending and simplifying it for me. I like a lot of clarity going into games and knowing my job when the ball is in certain areas of the pitch.

“He made it black and white for me and I’ve tried to follow his advice. My games have been limited due to injury but when I get my fitness back hopefully he trusts me to do the job.”
