Rutherglen Glencairn boss labels Neilston clash 'biggest of the season'
Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce says their clash at West of Scotland First Division basement battlers Neilston is the biggest game of their season.
Saturday’s postponed clash against Maybole means Glens’ last four league games are at home, and Pryce hopes a result at Neilston will put them in a good place as they make a bid for at least promotion.
Pryce said: “All our focus switches to Neilston this Saturday, and that becomes the biggest game of the season, now.
“We know after Saturday’s game against Neilston we finish with four home games for our league campaign.
“Neilston are fighting for their lives, it’s always a difficult place to go.
“We saw them only a couple of weeks ago when we got past them [4-2 win] at our place, and it took us into 90-odd minutes for Ross Smith to score that fourth goal and put it to bed.
“We know they’re going to be a difficult opponent and we’re going to have to play well to get the three points there.”
Glencairn’s clash against Maybole is still to be rearranged, but Pryce says there was no chance of the game being played.
He said: “We’re still fourth, the three above us weren’t playing, so it would have been an opportunity to gain something on them.
“Teams have games in hand, but I’d much rather have the points.
“There was standing water on the park, and there was no way you could play on it, unfortunately.
“It’s disappointing for us, because we were looking forward to the game, we were on a decent run of form as well and wanted to continue with that.
“But it was the right decision.
“We just need to move on from that.
“We managed to arrange training facilities quickly on Saturday morning, so we got the players through a good session to keep the legs ticking over.
