Queen of the South boss has game plan ready for Aberdeen clash

Queen of the South manager Peter Murphy has his game plan ready for one of the toughest matches he will face all season when Aberdeen come to town tomorrow.

The two clubs clash in the Premier Sports Cup opener to the new season in a televised match at Palmerston with an evening kick off.

And Murphy said: “It is good to have a cup competition at this point, so early in the season for teams like ourselves while we are still trying to add players to our squad.

“I think Aberdeen have been away abroad for their pre-season and as they are one of the top Premiership sides we are expecting a really tough game.

“It is a very big spectacle for our fans to turn out for and support the team, it is on TV as well with all the build up that comes with it.

“So it is a game that delights the players and is one for them to look forward to and we have to be prepared because it is going to be a tough start for us.”

Queens lost their last friendly 1-0 at home to Stirling Albion on Saturday despite dominating throughout.

And Murphy said: “We conceded a goal through a terrible mistake, but it is only pre-season.

“This weekend is when the cup games start and the main thing is we have come through with no injuries.

“We should have scored at least one.

“When the cup starts and, especially against Aberdeen, we are not going to get so many chances so we are going to have to be a lot more ruthless.”

Meanwhile, Murphy paid tribute to a raft of young players who were released earlier this week and hopes they find clubs elsewhere.

He said: “The younger players who graduated to the 18s; Andy Oram, Shea Meagher and Cammy Bryson who came in for pre-season with a view to a contract, they have not been offered a contract through the
