Queen of the South boss demands more wins after victory at Alloa Athletic

Queens chief Marvin Bartley is now demanding more wins in their last six league games of the season.

They won their first match in the last eight with a 2-0 away day triumph at Alloa and Bartley joked he could now manage a sleep for the first time in weeks but quickly turned serious and insisted: “It’s about building on this.

“It’s now about building on the hard work, finding that consistency, performance, and the endeavour that they showed – all these things in the game against Alloa.

“So at times you have to do the ugly side of the game like going into tackles, chasing back and they did that. There are different ways of winning games of football.”

He admitted: “It has been a tough period. It has been a good few weeks since I have slept!

“But it’s brilliant (to win), absolutely brilliant and I am delighted for the players. We got a good result and a clean sheet and shots on target.

“We could have been more clinical but you won’t hear me being negative. Football is tough when you are not winning and it starts to play on your mind.

“It was a fantastic defensive performance and two good finishes for the goals.

“And I keep saying to the lads, and I don’t know if they believe me or not, but it is not always about the 11 who start the game, it is about the 11 who finish as well and Craig McGuffie came on and scored our second goal.

“Joel Mumbongo gets our first and I am really pleased for him as well.

“But we have to keep working hard and build on this win. It is only three points at the end of the day and we move on.”
