Pundit urges Liverpool to find a way of keeping ‘irreplicable’ Sadio Mane and prevent huge mistake
Dean Saunders feels Liverpool must do all they can to keep Sadio Mane at the club as his departure could significantly hinder their progress.
Mane, 30, was part of the Reds side beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League final. But the bombshell then dropped the following day that he is looking to leave the club this summer. There has been no official word from the Senegal star himself.
But renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Sunday that the forward is ‘ready for a new experience’.
Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016. The Merseysiders paid £34m and it has certainly been money well spent.
The former Red Bull Salzburg ace has scored 120 goals from 269 appearances in all competitions for the Anfield giants. However, it seems as though his stay might be coming to an end, with just a year left on his current contract.
And Saunders, who spent one season at Liverpool, pulled no punches in his assessment of Mane’s importance.
“I think he’s irreplaceable,” he said on talkSPORT. “I would argue the fact that he’s probably in the top three players in the world right now. Salah, Mane, De Bruyne.
“I’ve watched the way he plays but as a striker he finds little pockets, he drifts from the wing, drifts inside. His legs are like concrete, strong, he’s quick as lightning and scores goals.”
