Pundit slams ‘disaster’ Ralf Rangnick and claims departed Man Utd coach smacked of arrogance

Jamie O’Hara has branded Ralf Rangnick a “disaster” amid his Manchester United exit without taking up his consultancy role.

United turned to the German in November as their interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He had also signed up to a role advising the Old Trafford club for after his spell in the dugout.

Doubt over the exact nature of the work lingered throughout Rangnick’s tenure as manager. Furthermore, speculation over how his new role as Austria’s national manager would affect proceedings added to that.

And on Sunday, Man Utd confirmed that Rangnick would indeed not be fulfilling his role working alongside club chiefs.

According to pundit O’Hara, the news rubberstamped a disappointing end to what was a bizarre chapter in United’s history.

In fact, O’Hara banded the whole situation an “absolute joke”. The former Tottenham man also slammed the 63-year-old for not living up to his coaching credentials at Old Trafford.

“Who appointed him in the first place? Who brought him in?” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

“Then the fact he comes over here and he’s the ‘professor’ of the game, that’s what winds me up the most, we have to deal with people coming over and thinking they know better than the people over here.

“We’ve got the best league in the world, we’ve got the best managers in the world and the best coaches in the world.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea counterpart Thomas Tuchel have both hailed Rangnick’s past influence. However, he also helped put RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg on the map as a sporting director.

Still, Rangnick could not inspire a turnaround in fortunes for Man Utd. The Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League with their worst points total in the division’s history.
