Pundit claims Jamaal Lascelles is on 'borrowed time' at Newcastle United

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claims Jamaal Lascelles in on 'borrowed time' at Newcastle United after a remarkable unbeaten run. The Magpies skipper has found it hard to break into the starting XI since the January transfer window slammed shut.

The arrival of Dan Burn and transformation in Fabian Schar's performances have solidified Newcastle's once dismal defence, at the expense of Lascelles. The Magpies had the worst defence in the Premier League at one point this season, something that needed addressing.

Newcastle are also expected to sound Sevilla out over Diego Carlos in the summer, while Sven Botman could be another name on their radar. If the Magpies new owners are serious about their lofty ambitions, better players will no doubt come through the door.

Now, Robinson has taken aim at the Magpies captain claiming a number of players "weren't good enough." He told Football Insider: "Lascelles is on borrowed time at Newcastle.

"The backline is something that has needed to be addressed there for a long time. That was one of the main reasons they were struggling at the bottom of the Premier League. Defensively, they were poor. The players quite simply weren’t good enough.

“There is talent in the Championship and there are gems to be had but I think Newcastle should be shopping Europe’s top leagues. Money is not a problem for them so why should in the Championship unless it’s for a phenomenal talent. Newcastle want to be competing for the best players in Europe.”
