Pundit cites EPL title concern as Thiago suffers fresh injury

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has suggested that the injury suffered by Thiago could dent Liverpool‘s Premier League title hopes.

The 30-year-old was forced to pull out of the Carabao Cup final at the last minute having felt a tight hamstring during the warm-up.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went on to lift the trophy despite the absence of the Spaniard, who was inconsolable on the bench prior to kick-off.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson admitted that he fears Thiago’s issue could impact the Reds’ title aspirations.

“We don’t know the exact extent of the injury but you worry after seeing his reaction. You just hope that he was upset to be missing out on the final, rather than the fact that it’s a long-term injury. It’s been very stop-start for him at Liverpool. He’s struggled to put a decent run of games together. Klopp will be desperately hoping it’s nothing serious because he’s one of their best players when he’s fully fit.”

The 46-cap Spain ace has missed 41 games through various fitness issues since arriving at Anfield in 2020.

This all comes as Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Twitter to suggest that the club were indeed in pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple.

So key has Thiago been to Klopp’s side when fit, that the cultured star’s absence is always felt.

Capable of dictating the tempo of an entire match, the control element of the midfield can evaporate without the Spaniard.

If indeed the Reds are going to achieve yet more glory this season, Liverpool will need some positive news following the further assessment carried out on their £19.8million valued man.
