Liverpool signing £67m Real Madrid midfielder would unleash new threat

If there’s one thing missing from Liverpool’s group of midfielders, it’s perhaps having a player who is in the middle of their career, at or approaching the absolute peak of their powers.

Naby Keita may yet be that man, though there will always be a question mark over his fitness record, while Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are only about a year older than the 27-year-old Guinean. But the next man behind Keita, age-wise, is six years younger in the shape of Curtis Jones. With the Reds known for purchasing players in their mid-twenties and on the verge of greatness, it feels like there may be a gap to be filled by somebody.
