Pundit believes Liverpool are 'preparing' for huge attacking departure

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell believes that Liverpool are ‘preparing’ to sell a key attacking player. 

This comes after the Reds secured the signing of Colombian left-winger Luis Diaz from FC Porto for an initial £37million fee (Sky Sports). 

The capture of the 25-year-old means that Jurgen Klopp now has seven viable senior forward options.

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell suggested that Liverpool could be gearing up for a major exit. 

“Maybe they’re preparing for one of them to leave. There is some serious contract dealings to do this year. The contract dealings will likely be resolved one way or another by the end of the season. The club might be open to one leaving now that Diaz has arrived. Jota has proven himself to be a class act. He has shown that he can be a really good replacement for one of them and when you add Diaz to that mix there is real competition for places. When you have a team like Liverpool’s, you do not let any players go until they’re done. They have depth right now. If they let a Mane or a Firmino go in the summer they’d be taking a chance.”

All of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are out of contract in the summer of 2023, albeit the club are seemingly some way along with the negotiations for the Egyptian. 

Although many Kopites would question why all the options cannot live in perfect harmony, in truth there almost has to be a fall guy in the long run. 

This is in part due to the requirement to freshen up the attacking ranks, but also due to the way FSG have conducted business during their Anfield tenure. 

Given Diaz’s favoured position is on the left-wing, the most likely candidate to leave the club would be Mane.
