Paris Saint-Germain dropped their first points of the Ligue 1 season with a 1-1 draw against AS Monaco on Sunday night.

The reigning champions have made a storming start to the 2022/23 season under Christophe Galtier with three high-scoring victories from their opening three games in the French top-flight.

Having routed Clermont 5-0, annihilated Montpellier 5-2 and obliterated Lille 7-1, Monaco must have been fearing for the worst when they travelled to the Parc des Princes this weekend.

Or at least, that’s what you would have thought on paper because Philippe Clement’s men actually gave a very good account of themselves to prove that PSG aren’t quite as omnipotent as they seem.

That’s because the principality club managed to snatch a point courtesy of Kevin Volland opening the scoring in the first-half, beating Gianluigi Donnarumma with a ruthless left-footed finish.

That alone was always going to give Monaco a foothold in the game, but holding onto any sort of lead when you’re facing Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is a seriously tall order.

And while they eventually managed to drag themselves over the line with a 1-1 draw, it most certainly wasn’t without some close shaves along the way.

In the end, Neymar bagged an equaliser from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, but the Parisians really ought to have levelled the scores long before that when Mbappe was presented with an open goal before the break.

It was an opportunity carved out by none other than Messi, but not in the manner you’d imagine as he himself took aim at goal as opposed to channeling the playmaking magic we all know he possesses.
