Proteas women won't be complacent: 'We don't want to give Ireland a sniff'
Proteas vice-captain Chloe Tryon insists South Africa cannot get complacent against Ireland ahead of Tuesday's second ODI.
On Saturday, the Proteas women thrashed Ireland with a clinical nine-wicket win in Dublin.
Fast bowler Shabnim Ismail and captain Sune Luus took three wickets each as the Irish were bundled out for a meagre 69.
The Proteas eased to victory as Andrie Steyn (21*) and Lara Goodall (32*) steered the side to an easy victory and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
"We couldn't have started the ODIs better. We just need to make sure we're doing the right things," Tryon told reporters on Monday.
"It was great to start like that with the ball. You can't get complacent in this game, cricket is a funny game.
"We need to take the positives into the next game and build on it a little bit more. Hopefully, we get to bat first and build a big total."
The Proteas have been dominant with the bat this Irish tour, with their top-order led by Goodall getting the side over the line.
Tryon says she is not concerned that she hasn't had time in the middle - as her services were only needed once against Ireland.
"Our top three and four have made runs, it makes our job a little bit easier in the back end," said Tryon.
"In a way, I'm a little bit happy and I would've loved to bat more, but it's really good to have our top four feeling good and confident. I don't think it's a concern.
"We know that we've prepared really well and if our time comes to bat, we put up our hands and take the responsibility."
The three-match ODI series will be the Proteas' opportunity to gain points for the 2022–2025 ICC Women's Championship, which will determine qualification for the Women's Cricket World Cup.
