Luus proud of Proteas' fight in Test draw: 'It was an amazing experience'

Proteas skipper Sune Luus is proud of her side as they fought for a draw in the weather-affected sole Test against England in Taunton on Thursday.

South Africa started the fourth and final day at County Ground in dire straits after Luus was trapped lbw for 10.

Then an encouraging 54-run partnership was formed between nightwatch-woman Tumi Sekhukhune and Lizelle Lee before Lee was caught for 36 off 51 balls.

The Proteas were still trailing, but a solid partnership formed between the resilient Sekhukhune and in-form Marizanne Kapp (43*). The duo frustrated the English attack as they scored an unbeaten 63-run stand to not only give South Africa the lead but also help guide the team to a fighting draw.

Rain played its part for the majority of the day, but Sekhukhune's three-hour stint at the crease spoke volumes of the grit shown by South Africa as they did not give the hosts a sniff.

Sekhukhune remained unbeaten on 33 off 131 balls, while joined Kapp, who scored a career-best 150 in the first innings, finished not out on 43 off 58 deliveries.

Luus was proud of the way her side fought for the draw and said they'd take a lot of experience out of it.

"Definitely, though it probably frustrated Tumi more coming into bat and having to switch on and off, but we always want to get four days of sunshine... but it's England," Luus told reporters on Thursday.

"I'm proud, we had nine debutants and only two players who played one Test, especially as we were playing a Test match against players who've played many more Test matches.

"Very proud of the girls and how they went about the four days, they've enjoyed it a lot. It's a lot of experience to take out of this."
