Proteas women to play first Test since 2014 as multi-format England tour confirmed

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that the Proteas women will tour England in June and July this year, including a once-off Test match at Taunton.

On Tuesday, CSA and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced an extensive tour, which will see the countries face off in a sole Test, three ODIs and three T20Is between 27 June and 25 July.

The Proteas women and England have not played each other in any format since 2018 as both sides look to build for July's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

South Africa will play their first Test match since 2014 when they lost to India in Mysore, Karnataka. Meanwhile, England drew against Australia in their sole Ashes Test in Canberra last month.

The red-ball clash will be held at the County Ground in Taunton and will be the seventh Test between the two sides since 1960.

The Proteas women have only taken part in five Test matches after the turn of the millennium - against England (2003), Netherlands (2007), and India (2002, 2014).

CSA Director of Cricket Graeme Smith was thrilled with the announcement and said he hoped the tour would be pivotal to their Commonwealth Games debut.

"The exciting times keep rolling on for the Proteas and this tour against old foes England won't be any different with the team looking to go from strength to strength in world cricket," said Smith in a press release.

"As the squad step up their preparations for the World Cup in New Zealand and on the back of an enthralling home series against the West Indies, it was important to secure more formidable fixtures for the side as they seek to continue performing at their highest level.
