Proteas thrash West Indies in Tri-Series clash

With the T20 World Cup just around the corner, the Proteas have shown they will be a tough nut to crack at home after they demolished the West Indies in Tri-Series clash at Buffalo Park. 

Sune Luus's charges dominated all aspects of the game as they romped to a 10-wicket win.

After electing to bat first, the West Indies struggled against an accurate Proteas attack that gave nothing away and took regular wickets. 

At the end of the powerplay, the visitors had struggled to 6/2 after Nonkululeko Mlaba (1/7) removed Rashada Williams (1) and Chloe Tryon ran out Shemaine Campbelle (1) with a direct hit from square leg.  

The West Indies' troubles continued when Sheneta Grimmond (5) was trapped LBW by Tumi Sekhukhune (2/24), who also had Britney Cooper caught for 10, and after 10 overs, they were 29/4. 

Captain Hayley Matthews and Shabika Gajnabi then put together the first partnership of substance as they scored 61 for the 6th wicket before Klaas (1/18) bowled Gajnabi for 33. 

Matthews was run out for 34 in the final over as the West Indies ended on 97/6 after their 20 overs. 

Needing just under 5 runs per over to secure a win, Proteas openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits never gave the West Indies a chance as they quickly achieved the target. 

Wolvaardt (42*) was her fluent best, while Brits (50*) went to her half-century when she hit the winning runs after just 13.4 overs.
