Proteas skipper Bavuma welcomes end of Boucher storm: 'We can now focus on cricket'

Proteas limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma admits to feeling relieved that the off-field issues regarding coach Mark Boucher have been resolved.

In January, Boucher was charged with "gross misconduct" by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on suspicion of racism emanating from SJN testimony.

And since then, the uncertainty surrounding Boucher's job has been a hot topic of discussion.

However, earlier this month, CSA withdrew all disciplinary charges levelled against Boucher.

The organisation has since gone on to express support for Boucher, with the former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman intending to stay on until the end of his contract after the 2023 World Cup.

The majority of the Proteas team, apart from those who took part in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will jet to India on Wednesday morning.

South Africa takes on KL Rahul's side in five T20s from 9-19 June in preparation for October's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday at their departure press conference, Bavuma says they've welcomed the decision as they can now entirely focus on cricket.

"There's a lot of relief within the whole cricket fraternity that these off-field issues have been resolved and put to bed," Bavuma told reporters on Tuesday.

"There's a space now for everyone to focus on cricket and what happens on the field. It was a tough time for the team, players and management, but I think we handled it as well as we could.

"Going back over the months, the conversations and discussions we had were to make sure that guys are mentally in the right space," continued Bavuma.

"There weren't any underlying issues and indifferences between players and management, which helped us to deal with the situation that was at hand.
