Proteas skipper backs Rickelton to fill Rassie void: 'It's his time to shine'

Proteas Test captain Dean Elgar confirmed that Ryan Rickelton will be the batter to replace Rassie van der Dussen for the third Test against England that starts at The Oval on Thursday.

Rickelton, who made his debut against Bangladesh and looked the part despite the tricky nature of the surfaces at Kingsmead and St George's Park, has had to make do with being a tourist in the United Kingdom.

Van der Dussen's broken digit - which he unfortunately suffered in the innings and 85-run loss in the second Test in Manchester last week - has not only ruled him out of the series, but the T20 World Cup taking place in Australia next month.

Elgar said Rickelton was in excellent nick and is primed to make an impact in what is a keenly awaited series decider.

Rickelton has reeled off four 50s and two tons in his stint with Northamptonshire in the English County Championship.

South Africa won the first Test at Lord's before relinquishing the second and the series lead at Old Trafford.

"He's our next batter in and I mentioned in our previous presser that he's the guy who will come in and replace Rassie," Elgar said.

"He's had a decent stint in the United Kingdom where he's been playing County Cricket. It's his time to shine and I'm confident that he'll be filling that spot that Rassie has left."

Elgar was coy to explain who or what the extra changes will be, especially with the middle-order being dysfunctional.

The current wet weather in London will most probably necessitate the return of Marco Jansen for Simon Harmer.

However, the biggest selection spotlight is on Aiden Markram, whose trial at number four hasn't reached the desired results for the Proteas.
