Product recall issued for M&S and Lidl over allergy and bacteria warning

A series of recalls have been announced at two major UK supermarkets, with one product potentially containing serious bacteria.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recalled McEnnedy Corn Dogs from Lidl due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes being detected. The bacteria can result in flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

However, the bacteria can cause more serious complications such as meningitis with vulnerable groups being at higher risk of infection such as those over 65 years of age, pregnant women, babies less than one month old, and those with weakened immune systems. Because of this Lidl is recalling all of the 530g corn dogs with the following best-before dates:

Lidl has highlighted that no other McEnnedy products or BBDs in Lidl stores are affected by the recall. Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer is recalling the Plant Kitchen No Chicken and Chorizo Sandwich due to the product containing egg which can result in potential health risks for those with an allergy or intolerance to egg.

The product affected should have a use-by date of 06/09/2023 and the barcode number 29320530. Marks and Spencer have highlighted that people should not consume the product if they have an allergy or intolerance to eggs. Customers affected by the recalls can exchange the product at their nearest store where a full refund will be provided.
