Prince William and George spotted in first public outing since Kate's cancer announcement

The Prince of Wales and Prince George cheered on Aston Villa in their first public outing since the Princess of Wales’ cancer announcement.

Prince William and his son were spotted smiling and applauding as Villa took on Lille at Villa Park in the Europa Conference League quarter-final on Thursday evening (April 11). The pair got out of their seats as Ollie Watkins put Unai Emery's side ahead 1-0 after 13 minutes.

George was spotted wearing a Villa scarf as he watched on beside his dad, the Mirror reports. It was the first public outing for the family since Kate announced she was suffering from cancer last month.

In an emotional video message, the Princess of Wales revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment following major abdominal surgery. She, Prince William and their three children all missed the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel at Windsor castle, following the announcement, despite attending last year.

The family spent the Easter holiday together as they adjusted to Kate’s diagnosis. In the message revealing the diagnosis, she said: "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.

"It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay."

William is not expected to return to royal duties until his three children go back to school after the holidays.
