Prince George shocks fans by how much 'taller' he looks during surprise appearance at England v Wales Six Nations with William and Kate

Prince George has delighted rugby royalists by making a surprise appearance at tonight's Six Nations match between England and Wales. The little prince looked adorably sombre as he stood next to his dad Prince William during the national anthem, just before the 4.45pm kick-off at Twickenham.

In a throwback to scenes during the football euros last summer, royalists were delighted to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's eldest son out to support the rugby. "Such a beautiful surprise for our Duke and Duchess to take Prince George with them," exclaimed one person on Twitter, as a second added: "PRINCE GEORGE!!!!!!"

"Sweet Prince George," tweeted someone else, as another viewer at home added the royal family "look so proud while singing" the national anthem. And fans were all saying the same thing about the 8-year-old prince - that he looks so much taller since last time he made a public appearance.

"Prince George clearly been sleeping in a 'Gro-bag' - he’s so tall now!" said one shocked fan. "Prince George is so grown up," agreed someone else, and a third person rushed to agree: "Prince George is looking more like his Dad now & I bet will be taller!"

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in direct competition at Twickenham Stadium for what is the first match Kate has attended since becoming patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU).
