Michael Beale sends message to Tim Iroegbunam after Aston Villa debut

Aston Villa assistant head coach Michael Beale has spoken of his delight at handing a debut to youngster Tim Iroegbunam in the Premier League win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 19-year-old has been an unused substitute for nine league games this season but made his way onto the pitch at the tenth time of asking on Saturday.

With Villa 2-0 up, thanks to goals from Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins, the midfielder replaced Philippe Coutinho with four minutes of normal time remaining.

Iroegbunam signed in the summer from midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion after breaking into their first team squad last season.

Speaking earlier this month , Gerrard explained how close the teenager was to making his Villa debut.

"Tim is extremely close," he said. "He's training really well and did well in the two friendlies we played behind closed doors.

"I know he's ready but, the midfield area at the moment for us, I'm really pleased with it. It's looking good, looking strong. Tim has to keep pushing and fighting."

After coming off the bench against Brighton, Beale took to social media to give his reaction.

“Delighted for Tim Iroegbunam - making his @AVFCOfficial debut today,” he wrote on Twitter. “He is a top young footballer and super impressive young man also. A very bright future ahead!”

Iroegbunam will now look to get more first team minutes with Villa back in action against Southampton at Villa Park next week, before they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United on March 10.
