Dumfries curlers chosen to represent Scotland at World Women's Championship

Dumfries will once again be on the map in curling with two local players selected to represent Scotland on the world stage.

Sophie Jackson and Fay Henderson have been named in Scotland’s squad for the World Women’s Championship which takes starts in British Columbia next weekend.

Jackson, 25, was part of Rebecca Morrison’s rink which won the Scottish Curling Championships in Dumfries recently.

Morrison will skip the side along with Jackson, Gina Aitken, Sophie Sinclair and Henderson, who Team Morrison beat in the final of the Scottish Championships, will be the alternate in the squad.

The tournament will take place in the CN Centre in Prince George, BC, Canada and runs from March 19 to 27.

Skip Morrison will be leaning on Jackson for experience, who skipped her then Scottish champion team at the Worlds in 2019.

The team selection includes young curler Fay Henderson showing the depth in Scottish curling talent.

Rebecca said: “Fay’s team are still juniors and they are all at least five years younger than us and they gave us such good games and beat us twice at the Scottish.

“You can really see that the junior game has come along in the last few years on the women’s side and she is a super strong player who brings a lot to our team.’
