President expects Aston Villa to complete transfer this week

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet experienced tournament heartbreak on Sunday.

Trezeguet was in tears after Egypt were beaten in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in a penalty shoot-out by Senegal.

The 27 year-old played in every game and scored a vital goal in the quarter-finals against Morocco.

He featured for 61 minutes in Sunday's final and Egypt's progression all the way to the end of the tournament meant any potential transfer for the player had to be put on the back-burner.

Trezeguet remained at Villa past the 11pm transfer deadline last Monday but the window is still open for business in Turkey.

Istanbul Basaksehir look set to sign Trezeguet on loan until the end of the season, with the club's president Goksel Gumusdag confirming that a deal is all-but-done to sign the player.

And on Sunday Gumusdag is quoted again on his side's attempts to sign the player.

"Trezeguet made it to the final with Egypt, he will probably be here on Tuesday," Gumusdag is quoted as saying in the Turkish press.

"I believe we will finalise it."

Through no fault of his own Trezeguet has become something of a forgotten man at Villa having only just come back from a serious knee injury.

But the signings of Emiliano Buendia and Philippe Coutinho and the impending return of Leon Bailey mean his chances of game-time for Steven Gerrard's side are very slim.

Under contract until the end of next season, Trezeguet is likely to move on permanently with a deal most likely in the summer.

The £9million arrival from Kasimpasa will be remembered for vital goals in the relegation run-in 18 months ago and a last-minute winner against Leicester City in a Carabao Cup semi-final.
