Premiership VAR mistakes DOUBLE but SFA stop short of the big reveal

The latest Independent VAR Independent Review Panel (IRP) update shows mistakes have DOUBLED since the last big reveal.

In February, the Scottish FA IRP deemed 13 Key match Incidents (KMIs) reached an incorrect outcome. Two months later and that figure is 26 after the panel looked at incidents submitted to them as well as requesting specific KMIs to be reviewed. The total number of VAR reviews so far this Premiership season is 1,1181, with the majority of those being "silent" reviews – carried out by VAR in Clydesdale House as the game continues.

Seventy six of those resulted in onfield reviews and another 36 were "factual overturns" – decisions that were reversed after being adjudged to have been offside or onside, or inside or outside of the penalty area. The IRP ruled 890.3 per cent of on-field calls made by refs were correct, rising to 97.8 per cent when VAR interventions are included.

Unlike previous reviews, details of the latest errors have not been made public. The numbers have been shared with all 12 Premiership clubs, however. The news comes on the back of stinging statements from clubs such as Aberdeen, who declared VAR to be failing.
