Premiership punters help SPFL smash attendance record for second year running as number break down revealed

Football fans have set a new SPFL attendance record - for the second year running.

A massive 5,151,522 supporters turned out to watch their teams in action across all SPFL competitions in the 2023/24 campaign. It is the HIGHEST figure of the SPFL era - with 25 member clubs reporting season-on-season attendance rises for league games. Viewing figures from grounds in the Championship grew over 50 per cent from 397.373 to 609,823 last term.

Year-on-year, the attendance rise for SPFL matches is up by 64, 122 fans on the previous record set for the 2022/23 campaign when 5,087,400 fans attended games. In terms of individual clubs, Scottish Championship runners-up Raith Rovers had the highest percentage increase in supporters through the gate. The figures went from 1,982 in 2022/23 to more than DOUBLE that number to 4,192 last season with Ian Murray's men falling to defeat in the Scottish Premiership play-off final.

Neil Doncaster, SPFL group chief executive, said: “It’s brilliant to see the SPFL attendance records broken for the second consecutive season. After topping five million fans across an SPFL season for the first time in season 2022/23, it is hugely promising to see attendances growing even further this season.

“Our supporters are renowned across the world for their dedication and passion and regularly record the highest per capita attendance in Europe. I’d like to thank supporters across the country for their continued support of our game, and our clubs look forward to welcoming them back in strong numbers when season 2024/25 kicks off again later this summer.”

Last season nearly 4.8million punters [4,746,052] attended games across the Premiership, Championship, League One and Two - including play-off fixtures with
